Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)

The Indian Institute of Technology, also known as IIT is an autonomous public-technical university. Located in 23 cities, these IITs are spread across India. These institutes are the Insitute of National Importance to the country. All the IITs are autonomous bodies. They are connected through a common council (IIT Council) that administers their administration’s work. 

The Ministry of Education takes care of all the 23 IITs in the country. Also, the Ministry of Education is the ex-officio chairperson of the IIT Council. Every year lacs of students compete at various Undergraduate, Post-graduate, and Doctoral levels to get admissions. As recorded by the data of 2020, there are approximately 16,053 seats inclusive of all the undergraduate programs in all the 23 IITs.

Doctoral Programs Offered 

IITs offer various programs in Doctorate of Philosophy. The students have to work on some thesis of their interests and the tasks given by the professor. 

IITs, NITs, IISc account for 80% of all engineering PhDs in India. In order to get into an IIT for the Ph.D. program, one must have a valid GATE score.

Every IIT is an autonomous body. It means that they have the authority to decide the fee structure on their own. There is some upper limit set by the authority for the fees structure. The fees at IIT vary between 10-14lacs for the complete course of a degree.

No, there is no way to get admission into IIT without JEE Advanced. One has to go through the JEE Advanced and qualify with the ranks stated by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) at the time of admissions. 

How much rank is needed for admission in M-Tech at IIT? 

To get into an IIT for M-Tech one must get a rank within the first 100-150 candidates (General Category). It further depends on the category and reservation quota too.
