The year 2020 affected the whole world amid covid-19 and is still a challenge. The education system also suffered a lot. Schools were shut and this demanded a fundamental change in the education pattern. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancelled the year 2020-21 exams and students were promoted on the other evaluation criteria.This led to a change in the syllabus and exam pattern for coming sessions. Let us read about the changes in class 10 CBSE board exams 2021.
What is New?
CBSE has divided an academic year into two parts- Term I and Term II. The syllabus of the class 10 CBSE board is also reduced by 30%. You can visit the official board website for a detailed and term wise syllabus.
New Exam Pattern
As stated above, the annual 10th class board exam 2021 is now scheduled twice a year as Term 1 and Term 2 exams. The Term 1 exam will be conducted in the months of November-December and the Term 2 exam will be in March-April.
In Each term, 50% syllabus and marks will be covered. The term 1 exam will comprise of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) based paper. The duration of this exam will be 90 minutes. These questions will be based on the case study and assertion-reasoning type.
Term 2 exam will be a 2 hours duration paper. This paper will consist of mixed questions, including MCQ questions.
Basis of Assessment
Term 1: Marks obtained in this Term will be added to the final marks secured by students. Students will mark their answers on the OMR sheet. Sheets will be scanned and uploaded on the portal. On the other hand, sheets can be evaluated and the CBSE board will update the marks obtained on the portal.
Term 2: In the second term, the remaining 50% syllabus will be covered. The paper duration will be of 2 hours. It will be the combination of different types of questions via case study based, long type, short type etc. In case there is any change in the covid situation, the board will consider taking MCQ papers.
There are several other possible scenarios amid the covid situation. Accordingly, the weightage of marks for Term 1 and Term 2 may vary.
Along with this, there will be multiple internal assessments based on assignments, periodic tests and the overall performance of students.
Resource Material For Preparation
As the exam pattern has changed, students must refer to other resources apart from NCERT books. You must solve the sample question papers and question bank available on the CBSE class 10 section of the official website.
Science Paper Pattern
- Based on the science sample paper format, Term 1 science paper will have 3 sections: Section A, B and C.
- Section A and B will consist of 24 questions each, out of which students need to attempt 20 questions in each section.
- Section C has 12 questions. Students need to answer 10 questions.
- The second Term paper will be descriptive type.
- The total descriptive paper is 80 marks.20 marks will be given for internal assignments and projects.
